Assignment #4

I finished a website for NU's theatre department/The Importance of Being Earnest. I've never done something so integrated like this, so it was a long process exploring the features of the site creator and tweaking things so they'll do what I want. There were times I was frustrated trying to get everything on my site, but overall I'm very pleased with how it turned out! Mostly, I learned what to do by tinkering with all the different features until I found what I want. I also learned how to layout the web page, which was often the most difficult part. I can take this site and re-work it to be a website for another school or can easily make a new site now that I have experience making a website.

My website includes: a Director's blog complete with 8 blog entries, a photo gallery, and a rehearsal calendar (you'll have to click back months to see events.) I used HTML in order to put links (for directions). O ther Info includes a video trailer for the play and an animoto video. I would hope to put more photo albums on the site documenting rehearsals, backstage, and performances.

This project touches on most of the NETS standards for teachers. For 1, it gives students a model for a good web-site and encourages students to interact with technology in order to keep up with schedules or comment on the blog. The site demonstrates to the students appropriate digital-age work (3) and shows collaboration with other teachers (the production team) and other students (photos). The website shows appropriate citations for other people's work (5, Rebekha's photos and Jason's video). And certainly has grown my understanding of digital technology (6).
As for students, it gives students a model and hopefully ideas if they are working on a website of their own (1). I would encourage students to share this website with friends, family, and potential audience members to show them all the hard work that has gone into the play (2).

I am very excited with how my project turned out, and am excited to share it with my friends and family.
